Making 3D Mario Blocks

A few weeks ago I finished making all the sides (450 in all) for the question mark and brick blocks. This week I’ve begun putting the actual boxes together, starting with the 6” size. The process is not rocket science, but I’ll share it anyway.

First I assemble the boxes using packing tape. This part is kind of a pain because you have to get the boxes taped as tightly as possible or else they don’t sit flat or stack very well. This is hard to do with only 2 hands.

Anyway, then I pull out the 6 sides of whatever block I’m working on.

This would be the 6 sides of a brick box.
And this would be the 6 sides of a question mark box.

I flip it all over, and add a glue dot to each corner of each square. Glue dots are kind of a pain to work with, but I’ve done this 72,382 times at this point so I’ve got the hang of it.

And then it’s as easy as sticking the papers to the box. Voila!

So far I’ve finished 35 of these bad boys, and have 15 to go. All of this Mario stuff is currently stored at the top of a closet, which is quickly running out of space.

The boxes take about 5 minutes each to assemble so I try to do at least 5 each day. Once I finish all 50 small boxes, then I’ll move on to assembling the 25 large boxes. Some of those will be interactive, so I’m looking forward to working on those.

About Me

I’m a highly introverted mom of 5 who follows the attachment style of parenting. I’ve been stay-at-home mom for over 20 years and have lived in 5 different states. I have a bachelor’s degree in accounting will never use it. My obsessions are home decorating, party planning, all things DIY, neurotic cleaning, Quicken, Disney World, rocket launches, and photographing wild animals and children (which are basically the same thing). I decided to start this blog as a way to carry on endlessly about stuff I like doing.
